Provide instructions on how to read a poem. Be sure to address specific skills and lessons learned from what was discussed in class.
In order to read a poem and understand it well you need to do the following: 1. Determine what the rhyme scheme is. When you know what rhyme pattern is in the poem you’ll know the writer wants its readers to read it? Find how the last word rhymes with all the other last words and place a letter starting from A. When the rhyme of the word changes or is different the next letter is used for example it would be B. 2. Highlight words you don’t understand. This helps you have a clear understanding on what the poem is trying to say. Knowing the definition of words cans also help reveal hidden metaphors and symbols in words in the poem. 3. Have an open mind. Poets are almost never particularly literal. They’re saying more then what is being written so one does need to “read in between the lines
